Battlefield 3 on my PC

Last night, I tried Battlefield 3 for the PC. I bought the XBox version on release day and it held my attention for a few months. The game was much preferred to MW3 in most respects, but it wasn't enough to hold my attention for long. Eventually, the disc was removed from the xbox tray and stowed away in its case never to be opened again.

There were times when I wanted to play Battlefield 3 again, but the HD graphics were deleted long ago because of my tiny HDD (queue the 'She said' jokes). Eventually, Black Ops 2 was released and the game's chances of play time grew slimmer. Nevertheless, the game was always in the back of my mind with the higher player count on dedicated servers and how epic it could be. Real battles! Bigger maps!

I had my chance when the game went on sale at the origin website for $12.00. My excitement of getting a great bargain for a fantastic game soon waned when I discovered my computer couldn't run it at a respectable speed. I feared that my computer couldn't realize Battlefields 3's full potential so it was the main reason I didn't purchase the game sooner. Yes, my computer meets the minimum specifications, but my graphics card is lower than recommended.

This, I feel, is one of the pitfalls of PC gaming. Eventually, regardless of specifications, it will not be good enough. Furthermore, to have the latest and greatest will cost significantly more than a console machine. Last, but certainly not least, is when a game is made for a PC it's tailored more to consoles than PCs.

To summarize, the PC costs the most but it's the least supported of all gaming platforms. Personally, I'd love to always have a cutting edge gaming rig, but I simply do not play enough PC games to warrant the extra cost. It's sad really. I never would have said anything of the sort with my first computer...A pentium 500 MHz rocking a 3dfx Voodoo 1 card, IIRC.
