Nintendo Fan once again

I've been the biggest Nintendo fan boy lately. With all the negative press that this company is receiving I find myself looking for reasons to support their decisions. No big conference at E3 this year? Sure, no problem! I can understand why. The media will find a way to trash them anyway.

Perhaps it's because I tend to root for the underdog. When the original xbox was released, I was an owner by Christmas. I continued to support them throughout the console's lifespan and I was a single console owner for that generation.

This generation, I own all the consoles, but even as a Wii owner I've neglected to support the console. For me,  the problem was because of the truckloads of shovel-ware. It was hard to browse for great games at my local game store when that game is behind Barbie's slumber party. For that, I hated Nintendo and what they've become. From my point of view, the console no longer represented the games that I enjoyed. Instead, it was a console that represented the casual crowd.

I don't know why I bought the WiiU, but I'm glad that I did. Initially, I was  worried that a repeat of shovel-ware titles were on the horizon when I saw Family Party as a launch title, but the feeling soon vanished after reports of sluggish WiiU sales and lack of games available. I don't expect the WiiU to repeat the sales of its predecessor and, honestly, I hope it doesn't. With that success came the plethora of crap looking to make a quick buck with the casual crowd.

With the WiiU, both Nintendo and third party developers will have to think carefully about developing the game for the console's true audience, the core gamer, and we're a picky bunch to please. If these shovel-ware studios do not see us buying the game, then they'll move on and I hope they do.

Good Luck Nintendo.
